In the previous technical training programs Advanced Mobility Africa has carried out in electric mobility, women have comprised less than 15% of the participants. There are several reasons for this;
– Technical work is generally less conducive for women especially due to the tough working conditions such as long working hours & lack of social amenities.
– The physicality aspect of most technical roles such as heavy lifting and long standing periods are less suitable for women.
– Women are less likely to try out new technologies compared to men.
– Women have more family responsibilities that limit their availability for far stations or long term jobs away from home.

On the other hand, women are well suited for green jobs mainly because;
– They have a lower carbon footprint than men due to lifestyles with less driving & meat eating compared to men.
– They are far less likely to be climate change deniers due to lesser economic reliance on fossil fuel related careers.
– They are disproportionately affected by climate change problems despite contributing the least to environmental pollution.

Electric mobility is going to have a higher proportion of women than fossil fuel mobility. The level of aftersales mechanical work in electric vehicles is way less compared to engine vehicles. Instead there is much more electrical & software work which reduces the need for physical strength.

Do you know women who would benefit from a payment plan or special discount for the upcoming Electric Mobility Technical Training program by Advanced Mobility in partnership with Kenya Power from Mon 20th – Sat 25th Jan 2025 at the KPLC Training School?
