MOJAEV AFRICA, a multibrand new energy vehicle distributor, in Kenya has launched its range of Neta electric vehicles at a flagship showroom in Sameer Park. The showroom is Neta’s first in Africa and marks the first of Chinese new carmakers to enter the African right-hand drive car market. The main model is the Neta V, a 5 seater compact vehicle in between an hatchback and saloon car. The Neta V retails at Ksh 4.8M, has a 38 kWh lithium ion battery, 380 km range, top speed 110 kph, regen braking, 14.6″ touch screen, smartphone bluetooth app key & vehicle to load (V2L) capability. Neta plans to expand its presence in Africa to 20 countries in the next two years, and build 100 dealerships in three years with the capability to sell more than 20,000 vehicles a year.
In a market where other brand new EVs like the Hyundai Kona, Mahindra XUV400 and JAC T8 are in the Ksh 8-11 M range, the Neta V price point is so compelling. It presents a credible challenge even to brand new ICE vehicles like the Toyota Corolla or Subaru Forester which already cost more. While passenger 4W EVs are expected to achieve purchase price parity with passenger 4W ICEVs from 2025, they sign are there in certain vehicle segments that is going to happen ahead of expectations. With Chinese EV manufacturers facing tarrif barriers in America & Europe, their focus on Asia, Australia, South America & Africa has increased meaning we should get ready for more of them in our market. The BYD Atto 3 is coming soon to Nairobi, keep it locked here.
